FIFTEEN FRIENDS SHARE FRIDAY'S €100,000,000 EUROMILLIONS SUPERDRAW JACKPOT
A group of 15 friends from a small village in the South of France woke up on Saturday with pretty good news waiting for them. They were on the verge of becoming multi-millionaires.
The friends all hail from a small town named Venelles, which has a population of 8000 people, all of whom were, no doubt, abuzz with excitement that some of their residents can now count themselves as super-wealthy.To put things into perspective, the single ticket purchased resulted in the group winning the largest ever EuroMillions jackpot won in France (€100,000,000 / $169,000,000 / £87,000,000).
"The winners are people from Venelles, people who get up early in the morning and work hard," said Mayor Jean-Pierre Saez.
For security reasons, the full details of the winners has as yet not been disclosed, but it is likely that they will be making public appearances pretty soon, but the mayor believes that the group is made up of "good people".
Officials said the winning ticket had been bought in southern France and would be shared equally among the 15 winners. The draw for the nine country pan- European lottery took place on Friday 18 september 2009.
